A couple of Giants coaches rolled balls down the chalk lines, checking if the dirt tilted fair or foul. A few San Francisco hitters squinted into the sun glinting off glass windows in left field, seeing how it might affect them in the batter's box. It's been quite a while since the Giants last visited Rangers Ballpark -- Tim Lincecum was a teenager then, back in 2001.

Doc Rivers met with his team after Friday's shootaround to make sure everyone knew his role. Rajon Rondo's was simple: Spread the ball around. The Celtics point guard immediately put the lesson into practice. Rondo had a triple-double with a career-high 24 assists on Friday night to lead Boston to a 105-101 victory over the New York Knicks.

Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers confirmed that backup guards Delonte West and Von Wafer scuffled after practice on Friday. Rivers said any discipline would be handled internally. Keeping quiet has cost Randy Moss $25,000. The NFL fined the Minnesota Vikings' star wide receiver on Friday for failing to cooperate with the news media. Elena Dementieva retired from tennis after losing at the WTA Championships on Friday, ending a 13-year career in which she reached two Grand Slam finals and won the gold medal at the Beijing Olympics. The 29-year-old Russian struggled with injuries this year but still won two tournaments. She announced her retirement following a 6-4, 6-2 defeat to French Open champion Francesca Schiavone.

Brett Favre has returned to practice with the Minnesota Vikings. Favre was on the field for drills on Friday for the first time this week. He had tape on his left ankle, which has two fractures, threatening his ability to play on Sunday at New England. Favre threw a few easy passes in warmups, but he didn't roll out or take any deep dropbacks while reporters were allowed to watch.
